Church HiStory
On November 1998, through prayer and guidance by the Holy Spirit, the Unity Baptist Church was founded by Reverend Sargent R. Nelson, Hampton, Va.
In August 2001 the church moved to 2403 W. Mercury Blvd., Hampton, Virginia. Deacon Joe S. Evans was licensed to preach the gospel and a Dedication and Consecration Service was held on November 18, 2001. Reverend Nelson was led to leave Unity Baptist Church in April 2002 and during this period in the church’s history the church overcame many obstacles.
April 2002, the members of the Unity Baptist Church came together under the direction of the Holy Ghost to establish a New-Testament church. The church operates in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Apostles as demonstrated in the book of Acts and throughout the New Testament. The name Genesis Christian Fellowship Church was born!
Genesis began with a membership of 24 members. Trusting the Lord for their very existence, Genesis solely rest in seeking financial support through tithes and offering. The Lord in his faithfulness has blessed Genesis to grow through its ministries and leadership.
August 2004, the Church family extended the call to Reverend Joe S. Evans to serve as Pastor-Elect. Reverend Evans was installed and ordained as Pastor of the Genesis Christian Fellowship Church on October 24, 2004. Through the leadership of Pastor Evans, God has continued to move this body forward. Many developments and advancements have taken place since the inception of the ministry. In September 2008, First Lady Gloria Evans was licensed to preach the gospel and elevated in the ministry as Co-Pastor.
Pastor Evans' vision to expand the training arm of the church came into fruition with the establishment of the Genesis CFC School of Theology in September 2012. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Genesis obtained their covering under Bishop Ernest E. Carradine, Senior Pastor of International Harvest Christian Fellowship, Saginaw, Texas.
August, 2015 Genesis moved into its present location, 9914 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA. Within the vision of the church’s ongoing building projects the audio/sound/video system was upgraded and our church’s Website and Facebook and other social media pages are current.
We thank God for the spiritual leadership, wisdom, direction and vision he has given our pastor through the years to serve him and led us to go beyond the 4-walls due to the 2019 Global Pandemic, when for the very first time in history the doors of the church were mandated to closed by order of the government. We also thank God for those whom He has sent to assist the pastor in the development of his people and to help carry out the vision God has given him.
